Type: TOP GRAIN. Either Cowhide, Kangaroo, or Buck Skin is fine. Due to the quality of the jacket, leathers need to be matched as close as possible if one hide cannot make the one jacket (and it usually doesn't).
Feel: The jacket has to move with the rider. We do not want anything too stiff. It is soft, moves with wearer, but still has great fiber strength. Exactly like the Harley Jacket. Look, feel, and features of a motorcycle jacket.
Tanning process: What type of tanning process does your leather go thru?
Water Resistance: Can you make the leather water resistant or water proof? Some companies add a "top coat" that penetrates down into the leather during the tanning process to help repel rain.
Thread: Nylon #69. This along with kevlar thread are the industry standards
Re-enforcement: Elbows, forearms, and shoulders must be re-enforced.
Armor: Pockets inside jacket shoulders and elbows to fit body armor
Arms: pre-curved for comfort in riding position
Fasteners: Extra Strength zippers / hook and pile (velcro). Zippers need to have large pull tabs so riders can grab when wearing gloves.
Edges: all edges need to be finished (piped) |
