According to the latest figures revealed by Apparel Exporters Promotion Council India’s apparel export to quota countries dropped 9.3 per cent in volume terms to 74.3 million pieces last month and six per cent value terms to $312.8 million from the year-ago period.
Garment exports to US during the month decreased by 22.49 per cent in terms of quantity and 19.84 per cent in terms of value.
Exports to US came down from 32.9 million pieces valued at US$18.25 million to 25.5 million pieces valued at US$14.63 million in August 2003, as per the latest data compiled by Apparel Exporters Promotion Council.
However, exports to the European Union showed a marginal increase of 1.80 per cent in terms of quantity and 14.32 per cent in terms of value.
Exports to the EU rose to 4.52 million pieces valued at US$15.33 million as against 4.44 million peices valued at US$13.41 million.
Canada witnessed a decrease of 21.74 per cent in terms of quantity and 1.37 per cent in terms of value during August, 2003.
The exports came down from 0.46 million pieces valued at US$1.53 million to 0.36 million pieces valued at US$1.32 million.
