Philippines : Efforts Against Illegal Garment Shipments Stepped Up |
2003-9-18
An agency of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is stepping up efforts against garment companies engaged in illegal shipping activities.
In a report yesterday, state-run garments industry promotion agency, Garments and Textile Export Board (GTEB), said it is completing its investigation on firms engaged in illegal garment shipping activities.
GTEB started early this year this probe after receiving reports on various companies engaged in transshipment activities. The agency said it has already uncovered 23 domestic garment companies engaged in transshipment activities involving more than 1.5 million pieces of garments with a value of $8.2 million.
