Exports Of Woven, Knitted Garment Surges |

According to the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) the export of woven and knitted garments has surged during the period January-August 2003. Indian exports of woven and knitted garments touched 9,091 lakh pieces during the first eight months of 2003 as compared to 8,606 lakh pieces during the corresponding period last year. In value terms, the exports increased to Rs 16,505 crores, as against Rs 14,841 crores recorded last year. Woven garments contributed 4,132 lakh pieces worth Rs 10,348 crores last year, as against 4,024 lakh pieces valued at Rs 9,346 crores in January-August 2003. Knitted garments had a share of 4,959 lakh pieces valued at Rs 6,157 crores, as against 4,582 lakh pieces worth Rs 5,495 crores in January-August 2003, they said. Tirupur exported 2,702 lakh pieces of knitwear worth Rs 2,653 crores during this year, compared to 2,384 lakh pieces valued at Rs 2,284 crores during the review period last year.
