Exporters representing Pakistan in the Berlin Fair will be awarded textile quotas for European Union (EU) in various categories.The exhibitors of cotton yarn will receive 66,000 kgs yarn quota, 225,000 pieces quota in knitted shirts, 215,000 pieces quota in knitted pullover, 158,000 pieces quota in shirts, 236,000 kgs quota (236 tonnes) in terry towels and 149,000 kgs quota (149 tonnes) in bed linen.
The exhibition - Import Shop Berlin - organised by Messe Berlin got underway on November 12 and will continue till November 16, 2003. A company - Faisal Fabrics - belonging to a former secretary of Towel Manufacturers Association of Pakistan (TMA) MIK Hashmi is among the exhibitors - scheduled to receive a substantial portion of the quota in the fair.
Hashmi has recently been sacked from his services on the charges of irregularities in the affairs of the association. He established his firm, Faisal Fabrics, under his wife''s name and is participating in textile exhibitions abroad.
The TMA had recently constituted an enquiry committee headed by former Chairman, Quota Supervisory Council (QSC), Abdul Razzaq Teli to probe the charges against him. The committee submitted its report to the association following which Hashmi was removed from his services in absentia.
