Taiwan to rank no.3 as global textiles player for 2004-5 |

Taiwan would remain at number three position behind China and the United States of America as a leading textile manufacture for the year 2004-2005. A spokesman of the Taiwan Man-Made Fiber Industries Association said, yesterday.
According to TMMFIA statistics, the annual production of Taiwan''s man-made fiber sector reached 3.81 million metric tons in 2003, ranking third globally, only behind mainland China and the United States.
The spokesman also informed that polyester fiber formed bulk of the total, with Nanya Plastics Co. ranking first in terms of production, adding that the company''s daily production of polyester filament and polyester cotton reached 1,197 and 684 metric tons, respectively.
Formosa Chemical and Fiber Co. topped the list in terms of the production of nylon fiber, with its daily production of nylon yarn reaching 568 metric tons, the spokesman pointed out.
Taiwan has been among the world''s top three manufacturers of polyester fiber over the past years, with the annual production of polyester filament and polyester cotton placed at second globally in 2002, stated the spokesman. |
