Seized Chinese trendy jeans and other goods worth Sh 960 million were set ablaze by the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) in Mombasa, on Friday last.
Goods were impounded eight months ago at the port as they were illegally imported by an EPZ company under Agoa privilege. They were seized at the Mombasa port in January this year in 16 containers.
M/s Lihua Export Processing Zone (EPZ), which imported the goods, had its license immediately suspended in March by the Minister for Trade and Industry, Dr Mukhisa Kituyi, after investigations.
The clothes were imported from China but bore the made-in-Kenya label, and were destined for the US market. |
