A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Laos and Japan on trade and investment incentives between the two countries.
Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) signed agreements for 50 types of Lao silk products, which meet international quality standards, to be exported to Japan and other markets in the world.
Lao silk products are attractive and have a competitive edge over similar products from other countries. Japan plans to introduce Lao silk products to Japanese and international markets in the future, said the director of JETRO.
Further, Japan will organise exhibitions for Lao silk products in Tokyo and other cities in Japan to develop the trademarks for such products.
About 2.7 million USD worth of silk products were exported by Laos in 2002-03 and 7.5 million USD in the first half of this year, according to the statistics of the Lao handicraft industries group. |
