Turkey''s Aydinli Group will produce suits for US POLO, one of the leading global names in clothing to be marketed in China.
The Turkish businessmen, who fear that they will lose a great deal of their market share to China once the world trade quotas are lifted in 2005, are gearing up to take the fight directly to the mainland by exporting suits to China.
High-level POLO Manager Robert Mintz said, "Blue jeans and T-shirts are produced in China; however, they cannot produce the suits with the quality that we want. Soon, we could send suits from Turkey to China."
Mintz, who came to Istanbul to learn about the activities of the Aydinli Group, which is the main US POLO license holder in Turkey, Russia and the Middle East pointed out that reasonably priced fine quality goods are produced in Turkey.
He said that Turkey will be POLO''s production and sale center and during the upcoming term they will produce suits in Turkey that will be sold to China.
Mintz, unlike Turkish textile producers, does not regard China as a threat. He qualified China as a world of opportunities and said, "1.1 billion people live in China, and 900 million of them are poor. But, 200 million people are rich. This is a huge number. We could sell them many of our products."
