Pakistan plans to diversify its trade with Kenya to bridge a Sh1.79 billion deficit between them in favour of Kenya.
Pakistan exported Sh8.7 billion out of which rice and wheat accounted for Sh4.9 billion in 2002/03.
Same year, Pakistan also exported rice worth Sh1.4 billion while wheat accounted for Sh3.4 billion of its exports to Kenya.
The balance of Sh3.9 billion is from cotton fabrics (woven) and made up articles of textiles such as towels.
The trade deficit, which favours Kenya, arose as Pakistan exports depends on availability of surplus wheat and rice.
A Pakistan delegation led by Commerce Minister Humayan Akhtar Khan was in the country recently to attend a Kenya-Pakistan joint ministerial committee meeting.
