USA : Needles - eminent textile chemist ''bids adhieu'' |

Professor Emeritus of Textiles at UC Davis, Howard Lee Needles, died July 30 at age 67. He was known for his humor, generosity and devotion.
Native of San Bernardino, California, he joined the UCD faculty in 1969 as a professor of textile science, and also served as the chair of the Department of Textiles and Clothing. Leaving the university in 1994, Needles continued to serve the campus'' textiles and clothing department as an emeritus professor.
"Howard was dedicated to providing general education courses on the role of polymers and plastics in society for students across the campus," said Susan Kaiser, chair of the Department of Textiles and Clothing, in a press statement.
Needles was awarded the prestigious Louis Atwell Olney Medal for outstanding achievement in the field of textile chemistry in 2003. Needles'' research included dyeing and color properties of fibers and films, as well as flammability characteristics of textiles and polymers.
A memorial service was held in his honor on Friday at Pebble Beach, California, USA. |
