Bangladesh : Textiles, Jute sector losses due to flood put at Tk 22b |

The Ministry of Textiles and Jute has stated that the twin sectors suffered Tk 22 billion (2,200 crore) loss in the recent devastating floods.
Shajahan Siraj, Minister of Textiles and Jute disclosed this while speaking at a meeting on assessment of the damage caused by the floods.
Mohammad Azizul Islam, Secretary to the ministry and representatives of Bangladesh Specialised Textiles Mills and Power Loom Association (BSTMPLA), Dyeing and Printing Association and Bangladesh Textiles Mills Association (BTMA), Representatives from the Bangladesh Jute Association (BJA), the Bangladesh Jute Spinners Association (BJSA), Bangladesh Jute Mills Association (BJMA), the Bangladesh Jute Goods Association (BJGA), Bangladesh Handloom Board (BHB) and the Bangladesh Jute MillsCorporation (BJMC) were also present.
The minister informed that the textiles and jute sector of the country suffered a colossal damage due to floods.
He anticipated price rise in textile goods by next month, if production the industrial units did not resume production soon. |
