Wool has swept the Parisian catwalks during the Winter 2005 couture parades in July this year.
In scenes of evocative luxury and grandeur designers paraded looks which highlighted the luxurious but natural elegance achievable through the use of fabric and colour.
According to Italian magazine La Spola the ‘virtues of wool were rediscovered’ on the Paris catwalks by more than one designer. Heavier weights, which had given way to lightness in the recent past, lead the way for haute couture winter 2005.
Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel used ‘double volumes’ with layered effects, again evoking heaviness - but not the heaviness of the past - this is weight with substance, the weight of luxury.
Christian Lacroix''s couture show highlighted tweeds in a collection brimming with sumptuous fabrics and colours like lettuce green, orchid pink, nutmeg and violet.
Jean Paul Gaultier delighted in the wool lovers among us with its use in plaid blanket wraps and shawls, Aran knits and tailored suits.
Trend agencies in Paris are reported unanimously announcing that wool will be at the heart of the season.
Trade shows such as European Preview (New York) saw wool in majority of the stands. A soft brush colourful tweeds were there everywhere. |
