The next few years would see the textiles sector generate additional two lakh employment opportunities with investments within the sector to the tune of about Rs 6000 crore, Shankarsinh Vaghela, Union Minister for Textiles said.
Foreign exchange inflow would increase post-quota regime from 2005 in to the country, he stated while attending an export award function organised by the Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council.
The Minister urged exporters to equip themselves to face stiff international competition.
Vaghela urged them to boost the brand ''Made in India'' in the international markets adding that quality should be the hallmark of such a brand.
Speaking of the competition the country would face from China, he said that India could easily put it across China in every sphere provided it focused on its originality, quality and credibility in delivery.
''''India''s quality and credibility in supply chain management is far better when compared to other international competitors. But it does not mean that India can rest on its laurels. The exporters should do their homework properly before the quota less regime comes into force in 2005'''', Vaghela added.
Assuring all support from the government, the minister said the textile ministry has requested Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to extend the duty entitlement passbook scheme (DEPB) against the decision of the finance ministry to cut it short and he assured that the DEPB scheme will be extended till 2005.
Asked about merging DEPB and the drawback scheme after 2005, the textile minister said the prime minister in consultation with the finance minister would decide upon the new scheme after 2005.
On the congestion of Indian ports, Vaghela assured that he would take up the matter with the shipping ministry and initiate all steps required to ease it.
Vaghela also added that he has asked the Textile Commissioner to take up the issue with lenders to simplify the credit delivery mechanism to the textile exporters and manufacturers. |
