It is bountiful production of cotton for Uzbek farmers as they gathered three million tons of raw cotton from the fields, this year.
A source at Uzbekistan’s Agriculture Ministry informed on Saturday that the harvest was being collected twice as fast this year as in 2003. The Uzbek farmers managed to gather 2.9 million tons of cotton in the extremely lean year of 2003. They plan to collect 3.6 million tons this year if bad weather doesn’t intervene with their plans.
It rained in Uzbekistan on Friday evening, for the first time after hot summer months. “Despite the whims of nature, the farmers will be able to collect the harvest to the last box,” a source at the Uzbek Ministry of Agriculture stressed.
Uzbekistan is the world’s fifth cotton producer. It exports almost 80 percent of the cotton harvest every year. Russia is the chief importer of Uzbek cotton. |
