Vietnam:Garment exporters told to postpone shipments

Vietnam’s minister of trade has advised garment exporters to try and delay the delivery of cotton shirts to the US until early 2005, sources reported. Truong Dinh Tuyen said that companies should wait until December 10 to ship products so that they will arrive in US ports after January 1 2005. The reason is because Vietnam is close to its US quota limit in the shirt category. The ministry has also asked the exporters to send detailed reports of their deliveries so that it can co-ordinate with the companies to help regulate deliveries and address any problems that may emerge.
