Enhancing excellent bilateral trade and developing business partnerships has been the theme of the talks between the visiting Pakistan Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and President of Sri Lanka Chandrika Bandaranaike and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Promoting bilateral relations in all fields was accorded top priority among other discussions held during the two day visit of the Pakistan Prime Minister on November 21, 2004.
Regarding bilateral economic cooperation, both sides expressed their commitment to the early conclusion of the proposed free-trade agreement (FTA). The framework agreement of the FTA was signed in August 2002. The leaders agreed to give political guidance to the respective negotiating process, which would be accelerated and concluded by the end of 2004, with a view for signature early next year.
