NY assemblyman Matthew Mirones (R/C-Kings) has called for permanent abolition of New York State sales tax on apparel.
Tax on apparel and footwear was reinstated in September 2001 after product costing less than $110 was exempt from tax in 2000, to cover the state''s fiscal deficits arguing tax cut will save New Yorkers about $600 million annually, and keep shoppers from traveling to New Jersey, Pennsylvania or Massachusetts for money-saving deals..
Mirones said, "It''s time New York State honored its promise and eliminated - again - the sales tax on clothes under $110. That will keep New Yorkers home to shop in our stores, creating jobs at the small businesses that make our communities thrive." |
