The European Union is likely to discuss lifting of arms embargo and textiles with China, EU sources said.
Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao would be discussing these issues at the EU - China Summit being held in The Hague starting Wednesday.
The embargo alongwith textile issues was expected to take center stage at the EU-China summit.
Sounding a note of caution, Peter Mandelson, the new EU Trade Commissioner said the EU has to tread carefully over the issue of continuing economic dominance of Chinese at global level.
With the WTO restrictions on textiles giving way in January 2005, it is generally percieved that China will flood Europe with its cheap textiles, will feature in the discussions at the summit.
Mandelson proffessed for joint efforts against individual countries seeking national trade wins with China as they were detrimental in nature, dissolving a common EU position.
"We need a collective and united response. We will be infinitely more persuasive in relations with China if we establish a clear collective strategy than if individual nations pursue narrowly defined national interests," Mandelson added. |
