Belgium:Polished diamond exports grow at 16% |

The November polished exports for the country went up 16% to $753.4 million compared to $649.1 million in the same month, last year, as per HRD figures released yesterday.
For the eleven-month period ended November 30, 2004, Belgium’s polished exports reached $7.48 billion, an increase of 13% on the corresponding period in 2003.
Belgium’s polished exports in quantity terms remained relatively flat with a 2% increase to 821,107 carats in November and a 1% increase to 9.0 million carats for the eleven-month period compared to the corresponding periods in 2003.
Polished exports to its three major destination markets continued to rise in November. Exports to the US increased 9% to $251.9 million, exports to Hong Kong jumped 54% to $107.5 million and exports to Israel increased 40% to $89.8 million. These three destination markets comprised 60% of Belgium’s total polished exports.
November polished imports zoomed up 36% to $676.7 million, while for the eleven-month period polished imports increased 22% to $7.0 billion compared to the corresponding periods in 2003. In terms of quantity, polished exports increased 20% to 773,138 carats in November and 8% to 9.4 million carats for the eleven-month period. |
