According to survey conducted by comScore Network’s monthly analysis of consumer online behaviour, the jewelry and watch category is the fastest-growing online product category in terms of purchases so far in 2004.
Annual sales on December 12, 2004 amounted $1.35 billion, an increase of 58 percent compared with the same period in 2003, comScore reports released on Monday.
Visits to jewelry, luxury goods and accessory sites rose 40 percent from October to November, with 13 million Americans visiting sites in these categories.
An increase in online visitors was shown on Department store Web sites, gaining 21 percent more visitors from October to November, according to comScore. Overall, 128 million consumers, or 80 percent of the US population that uses the Internet, visited retail Web sites in November 2004.
President and Chief Executive Officer of comScore Media Metrix, Peter Daboll said in the statement, "Consumers will spend more than $15 billion online this holiday season, but the Web''s impact on retail extends far beyond its application as a direct selling medium."
”Many consumers use the Web to research product and compare prices for items they ultimately buy offline,” Daboll said.
