USA:Clothing dominates US online holiday sales, study finds |

The latest Holiday eSpending report unveiled clothing was the strongest selling category during the online Christmas trading period in the US.
According to the report, which is compiled by investment banking company Goldman Sachs, market research and consulting company Harris Interactive, and Internet audience measurement and analysis company NetRatings, US total online sales between 1 November and 26 December 2004 increased by 25 percent to $23.2 billion (€17.2bn), excluding travel.
Online shoppers spent the most on clothing, which totaled $3.8 billion, or 16 percent of total online sales.
The eSpending report, which is based on the answers of more than 9,000 respondents, shows that toys and video games were second with sales of $2.5 billion, or 11 percent of total sales, followed by consumer electronics, which accounted for $2.3 billion, or 10 percent of total sales.
Jewellery was the category showing the strongest year-on-year growth with consumers spending $1.9 billion, an increase of 113 percent over the $888 million spent in the 2003 holiday season.
Flowers and computer hardware were the second and third-strongest growing categories.
