Austrian manufacturer of fibres for the textile industry Lenzing AG has unveiled details about plans to build a viscose fibre plant in China following more than one year of assessing the Chinese market, which has a viscose fibre consumption of 800,000 tons per year.
The Lenzing-based group, which announced plans to build a viscose plant in China in late 2003, informed it formed a joint venture with Chinese chemicals maker Nanjing Chemical Fibre Company for the construction of a viscose fibre facility in an industrial park near Nanjing in the Jiangsu province.
The facility, which will produce approximately 60,000 tons of viscose fibre for textile and non-wovens applications per year, is expected to be operational in the fourth quarter of 2006.
Lenzing''s Chief Executive Officer, Thomas Fahnemann said, "The availability of production capacity in China is a further important milestone on our way to building our presence in the Chinese and Asian markets."
To date, China has been supplied by the group''s facilities in Austria and Indonesia.
Nanjing Chemical Fibre owns the Golden Antilope brand, has more than 2,400 employees and exports approximately 20 percent of the 45,000 tons of filament yarn and staple fibres produced per year.
