From July 2005 to April 2006, the European Union (EU) is to implement new preferential trade conditions to Indonesia.
This was stated by Indonesian Minister of Trade Ms. Mari E Pangestu who met France''s foreign trade minister Francois Loos over the issue.
The new trade preferences under the Generalized System of Preference (GSP) would cut the import duties of, among other things; footwear products, said the Minister.
"However, vegetable oils and wood products would not be included in the GSP list because our import share in EU is more than 15 percent," she said.
According to Loos, negotiations were on among EU countries over the issues but in probability, Indonesia shoe exports to the EU will get duty cut from 17 percent to 13.5 percent.
He said that to help Indonesia in certain sectors from April 1, the trade preferences will be in place instead of July 1.
