While appreciating the efforts of Razzaq Dawood and his team in developing “Textile Vision 2005,” during a recent meeting of the Federal Textile Board, the Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has directed the Ministry of Textile Industry (MTI) to update it.
He called for implementation of recommendations and a new vision to be developed after consultations with the textile industry, sources informed.
The effort we specially appreciated as it resulted in participation by the private sector, and for taking major initiatives for developing contamination free cotton by running a pilot project in Rahim Yar Khan and Ghotki.
The Prime Minister also praised the government’s policy of credit availability that led to investment of $4 billion in the form of machinery for balancing, modernisation and expansion.
He said the textile industry was the largest employer in the country and the backbone of the national economy. Aziz’s government has given ministerial status to the textile industry. He said the Textile Ministry should develop its capacity in line with the industry’s needs and should be structured in a non-traditional manner.
He called for a new vision for its future and the new paradigm of efficiency would be a prime factor. He said Textile Vision 2005 needs to be updated and recommendations that are still valid should be implemented in consultation with the industry. |
