Eva Gronbach''s collection focuses on transparency, openness and promoting peace and uses a material that embodies all of this: She is the first ever designer to utilize Technogel in her creations. This transparent high-tech material which has both liquid and solid characteristics proved the worth of its cushioning properties in bicycle saddles and wound bandages. No other designer has probably ever attempted to use gel as a fashion element. Eva Gronbach found in Bayer MaterialScience, one of the world''s largest plastics manufacturers, and Italian company Technogel two partners to help make her "myfile" idea a reality.
"As a material, it stands for peace because it absorbs impact and is very similar to our skin. That''s what ran through my head when I held this gel in my hands for the first time," says the Cologne-born designer, thinking back to this unique touch and feel experience. Despite having studied in Paris and Brussels and working for major fashion-industry names like Hermès, Yohji Yamamoto, Steven Jones and John Galliano, she had never come across such a material before.
The result is a completely unified collection. The components and cuts are reduced to the fundamental elements of a collection - a basic selection of pieces for men and women with clear cuts, classic elements and high-quality black woolen materials. The large transparent gel elements, positioned on the shoulders or the back, give a view of "what''s underneath" to provide a contrast and symbolize openness and frankness. And Gronbach firmly believes that the pieces in the collection should integrate into the wearer''s wardrobe: "I don''t want to force a ''total look'' or an unfamiliar ideal onto anyone."
Gronbach takes the wearers'' individuality seriously and they can replace the designer''s brand logo with their own profile. Customers can order their "myfile" in label form on the Internet at www.evagronbach.com, enabling them to personalize their item for everyone to see.
