India:Ministry of textiles forecasts silk export to exceed target |

The ministry of textiles has forecast silk exports for the year 2004-2005 to reach Rs 2,650 crore.
The Central Silk Board figures placed the actual earning at Rs 2,779.19 crore for the year 2003-04, while exports were up at Rs 1,306.37, up by 49.3 percent of the target as compared to the same period of 2003-04.
It is expected that the actual export earning may across beyond the target in the current financial year. Natural silk yarn, fabrics, made ups, readymade garments, silk carpets and silk waste are exported to numerous countries around the world.
For the six-month April-September 2004-05 period, the top five importing countries, including the US, the UK, UAE, Italy and Hongkong accounted for percentagewise 29.5, 9.2, 7.3, 6.5 and 5.9 respectively of the total export earnings, according to the figures available with the Central Silk Board
In rupee terms, these countries accounted for Rs 762.90 crore, which was 58.4 percent of the total export earnings (Rs 1,306.37 crore) during the period.
Natural silk yarn, fabrics and made-ups accounts of the total exports, for over 66 percent of the total silk good exports. During April-September 2004-05, the exports of these items touched Rs 869.76 crore, registering a growth of around 16.9 percent compared to Rs 744.20 crore in the same period in 2003-04.
The readymade garments export stood at 30.5 percent earning Rs 398.61 crore during April-September 2004-05, showing an rise of 27.3%, compared to Rs 313.11 crore in 03-04. |
