A record of the sort has been established in the field of global production of textile fabrics in the final quarter of 2004 with "stunning" output from Asia, the International Textiles Manufacturers Federation (ITMF) said Tuesday.
In a statement it mentioned that global production rose 26.4 percent from the figure for the last quarter of 2003, while output in Asia over the same period grew by 56.9 percent.
Finished fabrics output in Asia rose 18.7 percent compared to the previous quarter.
But clearly, Pakistan’s performance came in for commendation by the world body as it said that growth of 21.4 percent over the final three months of 2004, and year-on-year growth of 74.5 percent speaks of the country’s abilities, according to the ITMF''s data.
European fabric production grew by 9.5 percent over the previous quarter and by 6.2 percent on an annual basis, while the United States posted more modest year-on-year growth of 3.6 percent.
South American fabric producers suffered a sharp decline in output of 3.2 percent during the last three months of 2004, equivalent to 22.6 percent decline compared to the final quarter of 2003, the ITMF said.
Posting modest growth yarn output reached 0.3 percent compared to the previous quarter. Growth in Europe of 7.5 percent was tempered by a 7.6 percent drop in South American output.
Now with the expiry of global textiles and clothing quotas, production is expected to grow particularly in case of China and to a lesser degree India''s textiles exports. |
