India:Ministry Of Textiles signs MOU with NHDC |

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed here on 29th March 2005 between the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India and the National Handloom Development Corporation Limited (NHDC) for the year 2005-06.
Under this MOU the NHDC will focus on enhancing the delivery systems for supply of quality raw materials like yarn, dyes & chemicals etc. at reasonable prices and to contribute to the growth of handloom weaving capacity in quality and productivity. This would be accomplished through number of other initiatives like marketing support through exhibitions, organization of sensitization programmes, Workshop and awareness programmes.
The Corporation proposes to cover 90 clusters by arranging supplies of nearly 225 lac kgs. of yarn and 11 lac kgs. of dyes & chemicals during the year 2005-06. The Corporation is continuing to act as designated agency of Development Commissioner for Handloom, Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India for implementation of Scheme for supply of yarn at Mill Gate Price for the benefit of Handloom Weavers.
The Corporation further proposes to organize Buyer Seller Meets so as to bring new supply sources for quality goods besides undertaking Branding of Dyes under NHDC brand name for its Dyes & Chemical operations.
Activity through clusters is further being strengthened, for which the Corporation proposes to tie up through E-Choupal so as to provide easy reach to corporation services for handloom weavers and users.
Though the Corporation’s line of operation has very limited margin, yet by efficient implementation of various schemes, cost consciousness and better utilization of resources, it has been providing satisfactory services to handloom sector and also been contributing to the exchequer through payment of taxes and marginal dividends.
Shri R. Poornalingam, Secretary (Textiles) Government of India and Shri V.K. Goyal, Managing Director, National Handloom Development Corporation Limited signed the MOU on behalf of government of India and NHDC respectively. |
