WASHINGTON (AFX) - A US appeals court has reversed an injunction barring the US government from considering petitions from the US textile industry seeking safeguards against Chinese imports.
The court had already stayed the US Court of International Trade''s injunction in May, allowing the US government to impose quotas on some types of textile imports from China.
The injunction had been requested by the US Association of Importers of Textiles and Apparel, which opposes the quotas.
In May, the US imposed quotas on seven types of textile imports from China following a huge jump in Chinese garment shipments after the end of a global textile quota system on January 1.
China and the European Union headed off a trade war earlier this month when they agreed to limit the growth of 10 Chinese textile products to the EU to between 8.5 and 12.5 pct until the end of 2007.
