China:Govt asks US to avoid harmful trade effects, says Chong Quan |
2005-8-5
US Committee for the Implementation of Textile accepted the petition of US textile institutions for restriction on five kinds of Chinese export textiles to US on August 1, such as skirt, pajamas, swimwear, lady''s shuttle woven blouse and socks. Chong Quan, Spokesman of the Ministry of commerce issued a statement and pointed out that US accepted petition in textiles once again after acceptance of petition for restriction on curtains in July this year, and Chinese government strongly opposes it. Chong Quan said this was encouragement to abuse special restriction against Chinese textiles, and deviated from the WTO principle of free trade and the spirit of liberalization of textile trade, discouraged confidence of Chinese enterprise and people for international trade environment after entry into the WTO, and will certainly affect balance between rights and obligations of China in the WTO. Chong Quan said that we asked US to deal with similar petition prudently and not to abuse restriction measure, and avoided resulting in harmful effects to China-US bilateral economic and trade relations. Chinese government will reserve the right to take further measures under the WTO framework.
