The Quick Estimates of Index of Industrial Production (IIP) with base 1993-94 for the month of June 2005 was released here today by the Central Statistical Organisation, Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation. The General Index stands at 212.5, which is 11.7% higher as compared to the level in the month of June 2004.
The Indices of Industrial Production for the Mining, Manufacturing and Electricity sectors for the month of June 2005 stand at 150.6, 223.7, and 188.8 respectively, with the corresponding growths of 5.8%, 12.5% and 9.4% as compared to June 2004.
The cumulative growth during April-June, 2005-06 over the corresponding period of 2004-05 in the three sectors have been 4.5%, 11.2% and 7.6% respectively, with the overall growth in the General Index being 10.3%
Alongwith the Quick Estimates of IIP for June 2005, the indices for May 2005 have undergone the first revision and those for March 2005, the second (final) revision in the light of the updated data received from the source agencies. There are no significant revisions in the indices for March 2005 and May 2005.
As many as 16 of the 17 two-digit industry groups have shown positive growth during the month of June 2005 as compared to the corresponding month of the previous year.
''Textile Products (including Wearing Apparel)’ have shown the highest growth of 37.6%, followed by 20.2% in ''Basic Chemicals & Chemical Products (except products of Petroleum & Coal)’ and 19.2% in ‘Beverages, Tobacco and Related Products''. On the other hand, ''Metal Products and Parts, except Machinery and Equipment’ has shown a negative growth of 0.4%.
As per Use-based classification, the growth in June 2005 over June 2004 is 8.5% in Basic goods, 10.8% in Capital goods and 3.2% in Intermediate goods. The Consumer durables and Consumer non-durables have recorded growth of 13.3% and 27.5% respectively, with the overall growth in Consumer goods being 23.7%.
Quick Estimates of the Index of Industrial Production at Sectoral, 2-digit level of National Industrial Classification (NIC)-1987 and by Use-based classification for the month of June 2005, along with the growth rates over the corresponding month of previous year, including the cumulative indices and growth rates.
