Belgium:EU -China deal will see Chinese textiles reach European stores soon |
2005-9-6
EU Commission has finally struck a deal with China that removes the embargo on 80 million textile and apparels held at various European ports.
Francoise Le Bail, spokewoman for European Commission announced in Brussels: "The agreement is a balanced one that should make it possible to spread the load fairly equitably."
She added, "The idea is that we should try to release those textiles that are stuck in customs as soon as possible."
This will pave way for release of over 400 million euros ($502 million) worth Chinese apparels and clothing withheld at various European ports.
According to Le Bail, Mandelson and Bo will give details of the agreement at a press conference later today.
She added that "Discussions are under way with all the member states."
