China's textile and apparel export to Japan amounted to US$14.507 billion as of October this year, up 6.8% as compared with the same period last year.
It is projected that the textile and apparel trade between the two countries will reach US$20 billion. In 2004, Japan imported 3 billion pieces of garment from China, representing 92% of the total volume of apparel import.
According to a Japanese association for the textile sector, Chinese goods fulfill Japan's demand for low-priced apparel products while medium-and high-priced products are supplied locally from Japan or from Europe and the US.
