China : Textile sector face major obstacles on way to WTO |
2006-10-8
During a seminar themed 'Vietnam’s textile and garment industry with challenges of WTO integration' organized by National Committee of International Economic Cooperation on October 3 at Hanoi, participants presented various challenges as well as exposed three major weakness of the industry.
According to Textile and Apparel Association (Vitas), the industry is facing severe weakness in three phases that are low productivity; lacking high–quality products; limited supply of skilled human resources, lack of marketing and designing experts.
Besides, the second highest Gross Domestic Product (GDP) earning industry of Vietnam is struggling to cope with increasing difficulties in accessing the US market that accounts for 50 percent of entire exports turnover.
Recently, Washington proposed to apply anti–dumping lawsuit on Made–in–Vietnam textile and garment goods as a measure to protect their local producers, leading more challenges to Vietnamese exporters
