As a big textile export province, Zhejiang's textile export enterprises will face a new stumbling block.
European Parliament recently passed a PFOS ban, stating that the content of PFOS (perfluorooctane sulfonate) of manufactured goods in EU market should not exceed 0.005 percent, with a transitional period of 18 months.
To Zhejiang’s textile enterprises who frequently suffer trade barriers, EU’s ban may bring a shock to the textile industry.
It is understood that PFOS is found to be the organic contamination in the world, which is currently hardest to degrade, it is a highly bio-accumulative toxic variety. Animal experiments show that a content of 2 mg per kg of PFOS can cause death.
Currently, PFOS has been widely used in textiles, carpets, shoes, paper, packaging, printing and dyeing, washing, cosmetics, pesticides, Fire detergent, hydraulic oil and other manufacturing industries.
The main harm is to cause human respiratory problems, and may also cause the death of newborn babies. Its pollution has brought up a growing concern over the world.
Undoubtedly, it will become another technical barrier from the EU to a large number of textile enterprises in Zhejiang province. Fibre2fashion, News Desk - China
