With the inflow of management, personnel and technology from inland large cotton textile enterprises, and the expansion of R&D scale on new types of cotton yarns and threads, now the significance of Xinjiang being located in front of local manufacturing supply chain is even more prominent. Xinjiang's cotton advantages are obviously increasing.
In 2006, some large cotton textile groups invest into Xinjiang cotton production, bringing the total investment amount up to 800 million-one billion yuan. Textile industry has increased 300,000 spindles on base of the original spindle number and is expected to add another 500,000 spindles in the next two to three years.
Xinjiang Economic and Trade Commission statistics show that in the third quarter of 2006 alone, the region already had 220,000 new spindles in operation. The proportion of high-count yarn and fine yarn grew substantially, so products value increased.
From the resources perspective, as one of China's most important cotton producing regions, Xinjiang cotton accounts for 8 percent of world total cotton output, and 35 percent of China’s cotton production, according to statistics.
During the ‘11th Five-Year Plan’ period, Xinjiang's annual cotton production is expected to reach 2.5 million tons, and cotton industry will greatly promote the development of cotton spinning industry.
