Zhang Li, inspector of Economic Operations Bureau from the State Development and Reform Commission, said on January 29, China's textile industry continued to obtain a rapid growth momentum. Export growth rate reached 25.3 percent in 2006.

Zhang said at the economic situation conference, China's textile industrial added value increased 14.6 percent in 2006, economic efficiency rose 28.3 percent.

In the rapid development of the industry, the industrial structure has been improved, operational quality and efficiency steps up every year, technological advances have achieved remarkable results, the whole personnel labor productivity has improved significantly.

Data from the State Development and Reform Commission showed that in 2005, China's textile and apparel exports amounted to US $117.5 billion, an increase of 130 percent over 2000, with an annual average growth of 17.3 percent, accounting for about 24 percent of global textile and apparel trade.

At present, supply and demand gaps of cotton and chemical fiber materials are increasing. Factors, such as lack of investment and small size, impact textile industry, which has very prominent problems in water consumption, high energy consumption and pollution. Among them, dyeing and printing industry has been ranked the second of the national manufacturing, the discharge of waste water stands for sixth of the national ranks, meanwhile reused water usage rate is as low as seven percent.

To support the textile industrial restructuring, the state in 2006 established ‘The textile industrial restructuring growth mode transformation funds.’ 
 
According to the overall objectives of restructuring the textile industry, China will, by the end of ‘11th Five-Year’ Plan, strive to enhance the ability of independent innovation in textile industry, to create a group of brands with independent intellectual property rights. China will achieve international influence with certain key technologies, brands and enterprise groups.

China will further optimize the industrial structure, substantially increase the overall level of equipments, reduce energy consumption, and protect environment with substantive progress.
