AGM Jactex plans to introduce nanocoated comber boards for weaving machine jacquard harnesses during 2008. These will reduce friction on the jacquard pulley cables.
The company has been investigating a number of possible coatings developed at local universities in Switzerland which will reduce friction on the jacquard pulley cables during the weaving process, especially those set at an angle down from the harness to the loom.
“The boards are made from vulcanised regenerated cellulosic materials so will also absorb a little of the coating, making it even more effective,” explained chief executive, Mark Freer. “Reducing the abrasion will mean the harness cords last longer, especially operating at high speeds. We are also exploring the potential of applying the treatment also to the pulley cords.”
Mr Freer added that 90% of the company’s business was now in the jacquard weaving sector, in addition to accessories for the embroidery and knitting industries, Founded in 1997 following the purchase of the commercial activities and products, including staff, machinery and know-how, of the textile division of AG Müller, the company now exports to more than 80 countries with customers on five continents.
