Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the country's biggest cotton producer, has reported 1.02 million ha under cotton this year, up 11.5 percent over last year.
According to the local statistics bureau, the increase was attributable to farming restructuring in Xinjiang.
The acreage under cereal in the region has fallen by 13 percent compared with that of last year while the acreage under vegetables has been up 18 percent. The acreages under oil-bearing crops, hemp and potatoes have also increased.
Xinjiang produces over 1.5 million tons of cotton a year, accounting for one third of the country's total.
