Somsak Thepsuthin, Industry Minister of Thailand, after a workshop on the Bangkok Fashion City project, said that Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has vowed to give full government financial support for a project aimed at boosting the country's fashion industry. The cabinet approved a budget of 1.82 billion baht last week for the project after a delay of six months while it awaited for approval from the National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB).The NESDB, the government's main planning agency, had turned down the budget proposal three times on concern over its feasibility."We can go full steam ahead with the plan especially now that we have full support from the prime minister," Mr Somsak said.He said the project's grand opening would take place in October in an event called Thailand Fashion Week. The event will take place during the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (Apec) Summit in Bangkok and will involve buyers, traders and producers in the fashion industry.
