Colombia : 1,000 Foreign Buyers Attended Fashion Fair |
2003-8-21
During the two days of the Colombiamoda fashion fair in Medellin, solid orders were placed in the value of US$12mil, and it is expected that the goal of generating business of US$30mil between the fair and the end of December will be realized. For the first time in its 14-year history, the fair attracted more than 1,000 foreign buyers.
The Colombian textile industry aims to export a value of US$500mil to the US and US$1bil to other destinations this year, with the latter being the result of the customs benefits provided by the ATPA (Andean Trade Preference Act). These benefits were also responsible for the increased participation of foreign buyers in the latest Colombiamoda. Colombia''s textile companies also used the fair as an opportunity to ask President Alvaro Uribe to extend by one year the period in which machinery can be imported at zero duty, which is set to end in December, 2003.
